Moss Motoring Challenge

Some FABACians might be interested in participating in the 2018 Moss Motoring Challenge.  I’ve done so for the past few years and found that it encouraged us to get out for drives and road trips when I might otherwise might have left the Little Blue Car in the garage.  The bonus is that each year I get a new hat!

Hey Here is a club challenge. we might not be able to beat the whole country in this challenge but if we make it club wide with a nifty prize it should encourage local drives. I propose we use Phil's new hat as the prize.

Excellent idea Ralph. I promise to keep the hat pristine and off my sweaty brow for the winner. How about it folks? Register now and be sure to note your club affiliation on the application.

So a couple ground rules
1. photo of you and your car under, near, or on top of a location identifying sign required.

2. sign may be Govt. road sign (1 point) Community welcome sign (2 points) or best yet the town or city hall building (3 point). This was my idea and differs from the Moss challange

3.the idea is to collect a community for each letter of the alphabet. The points are awarded for the first letter in each community and each letter of the alphabet is counted only once.

Sound simple right . Now GO.

I'm in Ralph but we have to figure out a way to score everyone’s entries at the end of the challenge. Cut off date for entries? Add a couple of zinger categories that need some imagination for extra points at the discretion of the judges?

sounds like a lot of work I think we need an ad-hoc subcommittee to look into the whole scoring thing.
Done - OK how about everybody submit a series of grainy B&W photo (4 X 6 inch landscape format) (done on your laser printer to save $$$) These would be mailed to our box at a reputable CA firm for tamper free safe keeping. They can be scored by the distinguished panel of judges ( Hmmmm Phil and Ralph will do instead, after all they started the fool idea) at a meeting with on the spot awards ceremony. that will save a lot of Tiara and Tuxedo cleaning for the hoards of common folk that will undoubtedly want to attend.

If the photo idea does not fly then folks submit the list they have collected (an a Urine sample for testing) by the last outing around October.

Let her rip potato chip.

Ralph, do we need to appoint some very reliable person to the sub-committee to collect he Urine Samples? We don't want to get embroiled in a doping scandal reminiscent of the Russian mess. :-)

Does it have to be only one car? Can one participant submit photo's with different LBC's in the photo?

Joe, my take on it is that any FABAC member in good standing, even if they drive one of those "other" cars or more than one eligible car can participate. However, since we haven't yet held a formal Challenge Committee meeting, I'll ask Chairman Ralph to chime in here for a final decision.

This is getting wonderfully complicated. I suggest that all submissions be digital and that the photos must be from 2018. I volunteer to check EXIF data— much better than urine samples for which I shall NOT volunteer. Any attempt to Photoshop images should lead to a permanent ban of the member from any further Challenges. (Unless the member is Russian, of course. That hardly needed to be stated. )

OK My take on these last few posts

You guys have WAY too much time on your hands

That said Here I go:

Joe Any LBC owned by you with you in it would qualify in fact lets have 10 bonus points to each participant that has photos with different cars. that should kick the LBC resale market into high gear. Photos with cars other than LBC (like maybe a Honda) minus 15 points

David 2018 photos only and as I am sure nobody will have any idea what EXIF data is That can be your department. Urine collection requirement has been suspended for now. And- Is there anyplace on the blog site to create an ongoing album of photos as they are submitted.

special category photos:
Covered bridge showing name 3 points
LBC on (not just at) a ferry boat showing ferry name 3 points
car on the back of a tow truck 3 points
Driver spread eagle on LBC and getting frisked by local police or RCMP (no location sign required) 10 points (that is for Phil and speedy blue)

So that should just about muddy up the scoring process enough
so nobody will really be able to accurately total the points.

Anyone out there with enough computer savy to set up a Trello board for this exercise? Can be used to easily upload photos and can be set up to accept one photo for A to Z for each entrant. I tried to do it and got hopelessly confused.

I had checked out the Trello board after Ralph’s suggestion. As incredible as it is, it is far too complicated for our simple needs. I shall keep looking.

Trello That is a brand of chocolate isn't it?
