Further Info on the Wheels to Meals fundraising event June 4th

Feedback from an earlier posting would indicate that several members of FABAC would be interested in participating in the "Car Boot Sale". Here are details of the event from their President:

Greetings everyone,
The Fundraising  Committee of Meals on Wheels is in the process  of planning a number of events to  raise money in support of our operations.  One of these will be an interesting twist on a yard sale to be held in the parking lot of the Victoria Health Centre on June 4th 2016,  8am-4pm.  It is early days yet, but if you have things you’d like to get rid of, and you’re looking for a good home, please consider setting them aside for us.  We’ll have further details closer to the date about where you can drop them off, or how you can arrange to have them picked up.  We do have some limited storage available, so if you’re in a hurry to get rid of things, please call me at 459-3044, or comment here and  we’ll try to arrange something.
Also, we’ll need some extra volunteers for this event.  If you love yard sales and/or would be willing to help out with this one, please let us know.  We can use all the help we can get! At a Boot Sale, vendors load up their vehicles with their merchandise, drive to the allotted spot, unpack their things and display them in and around their vehicle. Meals on Wheels hopes to have a large group of vehicles of their own, and the proceeds will go directly to Meals on Wheels of Fredericton. Other vendors are invited to purchase a space for $20 each. Vendors could sell arts, crafts, clothes, books, tools, food, - you name it.

DUMFRIES MAPLES

From Johanna:
I contacted Dumfries Maples. They are now open every weekend. I can book for Sunday March 13 at 10 am if I have some indication of numbers. We could meet there to simplify things.

An interesting invitation to FABAC

One of my fiddling gig contacts posed the following:

"I wonder if your auto club would like to attend an event on June 4th, 2016. We are having a car boot (yard) sale at the Victoria Health Center, and if any of your members have antique/restored cars they’d like to put on display, our event will be from 8am-4pm on Saturday (weather permitting).  There will be vendors selling goods out of their cars like they do in England and we thought this may be an event that would interest your British car club."

So, FABACians, what do you think? Personally, I think it would be great.
- David

Notes from February FABAC Meeting

A relatively small group gathered for dinner at Sam Snead's for the monthly meeting.
  • After an update from Helen on our friend John's condition after his very extensive heart operation, a card was passed around for all to sign that she will take and give to him when she and Herb visit again.
  • President Gary advised the group that Alex had fallen on ice and broken his arm.  Gary will keep us updated on his progress.
  • Next meeting will be at Dimitri's on the the 16th of March.
  • Kelvin spoke about his traditional St. George's Day event that he will be hosting again on the  23rd of April.  He will have a short Rally before hand ending at his garage.
  • Kelvin also advised for those attending the BMF, he will be cooking breakfast at the site on Saturday morning for all the FABAC members on site.  I confirmed that breakfast will include Gin and Tonics for those inclined.
  • Kelvin says he is also planning a drive-in theater event at his garage along with a BBQ.  This will be later in the season when the days are getting shorter.
YAY KELVIN!   I love this kind of support and commitment to our group!
  • And finally, Kelvin (again) had a quiz to replace the traditional John quiz while we waited for our meals.

I'm still stumbling upon unusual cars.

Never saw this model before: http://carrrs.com/1925-bentley-6%C2%BD-litre-retroview/

Very beautifully made models—likely very expensive

I received an email about a product I had not heard of before. You can get this company in France to make an exact 1/8 model of your or any car ever made—any year, any model. I hope one of the rich among you will order one just so I can see it. (Yes, a TR3 and a Morgan are among the many examples they have made.) Check it out here.

There's a printable coupon available for Wednesday's meeting

Tip from Margot R:
Came across a discount coupon at Sam Sneads on their website today…..FABACians might be interested in checking it out for our meeting on Wednesday.
