Here's an interesting suggestion for Saturday.

I’m planning to make an excursion to the old Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, ME on Saturday if anyone is interested in going.  The Loring Timing Association use the old Strategic Air Command 2 5/8 mile airstrip to set land speed records in many categories……..might even find an LBC or two.  J . Saturday racing begins at 8:00am and ends at 5:00pm Maine time.  It’s about a two hour drive.  You can get back to me at britcars@hotmail.com or text me at 292-4993.

Phil...I would be so up for this, but I'm going to NS flying for the weekend.

Perhaps next year Joe.
Hope to see some "low flying". The record holder for a street bike with a supercharger was set last year at 312 MPH.

Well, the trip to Loring was a disappointment. Spectators are not allowed at the "fast end" of the runway, only registered racers and pit crew. Even the starting area was at least 400 feet from the pit area and there are no provisions for spectators at all. It seems to be an event for racers, their crew and friends.
On the other hand it was a wonderful day for a tour on some excellent Maine back roads, driving through such places as Monticello, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, Mapleton, Ashland, Knowles Corner, Smyrna Mills and Houlton.
