A couple days ago we had a lovely elderly lady visiting from England stay
with us. I had the Jaguar S Type parked out in the yard and she immediately bounced over and asked if she could hug it. She procceded to talk of all the great cars she and her husband had owned and driven over the years. TR 3A and MGAs, Rovers and several Morgans. Her favorite was a 1938 Morgan 4 wheeler her father had bought for her and her brother following the war.
She shared with me what a wonderful car it was but she seemed to be holding back a bit so I pressed her on to tell me more. Finally she admitted that it was not a very reliable car and spent more time in for repairs than on
the road. So much so that it was refered to as the family's “static symbol” rather than status symbol.

FATHER’S DAY AT PINE GROVE NURSING HOME.
FABAC members have been invited to display their classic cars at Pine Grove Nursing Home, on Father’s Day, Friday, June 15th from 10.30 to 11.30 am. (Dry weather only) John B. is coordinating this annual community event. Please by June 13th advise him at jmbowles@nb.sympatico.ca if you plan to attend. The more classic cars the better to help give Pine Grove’s male residents a Father’s Day to remember.
Freddy Beach Show & Shine INFO
For the club's interest, the Freddy Beach Show & Shine has changed the location and the day. The new location is in front of the FREDERICTON HIGH SCHOOL. The entrance is off PROSPECT STREET (the entrance next to Kentucky Fried Chicken) and will be held each WEDNESDAY NIGHT instead of Thursday. It starts this Wednesday night, May 30th.

I noticed that at our May meeting, the Club discussed primarily "OVERNITE" runs. With me being a DAYTRIPPER fan, I put on my thinking cap and came up with these ideas:
1) some Thursday in July or August a run up river - Victorian Tea at the Connell House in Woodstock ($12 admission includes tea, finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, cakes), continuing on to Waterville to tour the "Covered Bridge Potato Chips" factory before we head back home
2) Minister's Island - I'm embarrassed to say - I'VE NEVER BEEN THERE - perhaps we could tour the Island in the morning, have a picnic lunch and then take a jaunt through Kingsbrae gardens ($9.50/person for groups of 20 or more)
3) Some Friday night in July we attend the Church Supper at the Keswick Community Center and then head out through Crabbe into Nackawic and back on the Mactaquac side of the river through Granite Hill and stop for an ice cream at Skinny's on the Ridge
4) A Marden's Run - yep! We could head out in the morning & hit Marden's in Houlton before having lunch at Grammie's (seafood restaurant with huge meals like Comeau's). After a leisurely drive along the river to Calais, another Marden's stop/shop.
Anyone interested in turning these ideas into ACTUAL RUNS? With weekends being limited in numbers and us having all sorts of family commitments, I was thinking that the Marden's and Minister's Island experiences could be weekday events.

Report on FABAC Meeting at Sam Snead's
Despite a torrential downpour of biblical proportions, one whole LBC graced the parking lot at the Kingswood golf club. This wasn't really disappointing since we are also well known as an epicurean club. A task to which we applied ourselves again in fine style.
With 26 folks eagerly awaiting dinner, Gary regaled the club with accolades for what has already been a fine start to the eatin----, driving season. Even with consistently horrible weather we've managed some pretty nice runs.
This Saturday will see the annual lobster supper in Dumfries. More information can be found a few boxes below this one.
Three big events for LBCs (and the folks who eat-- drive them) are scheduled for this summer with the Windsor show on July 20-22nd, Rexton on August 12th and PEI a couple of weeks later on August 24th weekend.
Currie invited the club to join the BATANS folks at Cavendish beach on the same weekend as the PEI show.
The immutable Tim (a serious car geek much to my liking) showed off some MG porn (an overdrive chromey) and a magnetic finger wrench ( http://www.magneticfinger.com/ ). I personally will be ordering said wrench as it sounds much less painful than gluing nuts to one's fingertips.
Vic (of Vic-n-Heather) warned members traveling to the Magdalen Islands to avoid a certain trebuchet. Heather detailed a run they will be doing to Reford Gardens ( http://www.refordgardens.com/english/ ) in Gaspé this summer and invited others along. They also proposed a run to Cornhill Nursery near Sussex.
Kelvin invited the club to help move his garage sometime in June. He also invited the club to an Auto Slalom run by the Fredericton Motorsports Club ( http://www.fmc-inc.net/ ) this weekend.
Our next meeting will be at the 777 Restaurant in Freddy north in June. Details will most assuredly appear here.

Annual Lobster Run (Yum!)
The Fredericton Association of Bavarian Automobile Connoisseurs "fabac" will be participating in a Saturday afternoon drive to Dumfries, NB to enjoy open air driving, and a Lobster Supper at St. Clements Anglican Church on May 19, 2012.
Setting off time will be 4:00 pm at the Tim Hortons establishment on the Woodstock Road.
The Lobster Supper will cost $25.00, and a Ham alternative is available for $12.00. It is recommended that participants have cash.
To ensure maximum comradery and friendship, all little Bavarian automobiles, little British automobiles, and other little sporty automobiles are encouraged to be part of the event.

Saint John Run Sunday May 6
The first real run of the season was a gangbuster today. A group followed the river (there's only one) down to Gagetown area where we met another gang from Saint John and stopped to chat. They were heading upriver and us down, so after catching up on recent events, we parted and headed out. The weather improved as we approached Saint John (unusually!) which was a welcome relief to those few of us with tops down (very few!). At the Reversing Falls parking area we met another group from Saint John including a few new folks and spent some time admiring their cars. We ate an early supper overlooking the falls then headed home. The majority of the club, milk toasts and lilly-livered sissy-marys all, put their tops up and took the dull and boring highway 7 back to Freddy. Only a meager two cars (and only one with the top down) returned via the gorgeous and endlessly entertaining River Road. It was reasonably warm and the sky had cleared leaving a few puffy clouds to decorate the blue backdrop.

Jim B and myself are planning a trip to Saint John this Sunday May 6th. We will meet at Exhibition Park in Fredericton and will depart there promptly at 1pm. Our route to Saint John will be via Gagetown. We will stop at the Burton Court House to pick up attending Oromocto/Burton members. We should arrive there around 1:30. We will then proceed to Gagetown stopping for a bio break just before getting to Gagetown at the service station in Coytown (just across the TCH) . From there we will meander down the old river road and stop for a scenic view of the mighty Saint John River at the provincial picnic site beyond Gagetown.
Once in Saint John we hope to meet up with as many of our Saint John group as available at the Falls View Restaurant. We expect to be there around 3:30. We will eat supper there. If it's too early we may decide to go to Falls View Terrace to view the mighty Saint John River funnel through the narrow passages before emptying into the Bay of Fundy. The Reversing Falls (rapids) can be a very impressive site with all the water flowing through the narrows this time of year.
Hope to see many of you there including as many of our Saint John members as possible.

A "Too-Nice-a-Day-to-Miss" Run this Friday
Is anyone interested in joining a few of us on Friday evening for a meal and a little drive?
The plan is to congregate at 6:00pm if you wish to eat with us, OR 7:00pm if you just want to go for a little drive. We are going to try the new Chinese restaurant on Main Street where Jives used to be, and was Frank's even before that. If you plan to eat with us, I have already made a reservation for a little group of six, so you should phone them and add to my reservation (under David Nielsen). They are VERY busy so don't plan to eat without a reservation.
