Here's an easy one. (Jim Mc got the correct answer. EXCELLENT job!)

(You guys got pretty excitable over those ones Ralph submitted.)
What is this, and why do I want one?!  ;-)
I really like this photo of the Mercedes' dash. More photos here.

Phil O. thinks we need a bit more "Name that car!"

So, here you are folks. Click on "Comments" and add your guesses.

Name that Car! (Jim McK does GREAT with these challenges. Check comments for the correct answers.)

FABAC member Ralph of Saint John sent this along:
Folks, can you guess the car? No need to hide the logo or any other part of the car. Have a good look if you can stand it and make a guess.

Looks like the front end of my 66 Jag S type with the rims off my 61 MGA but then the designers got caught  in the drug-crazed days of peace and love as they worked their way to the back . OMG what where they thinking, but really, this is a real car in production now.  Can you guess what it is?

Hint: This car company loves to "borrow" the styling from classic and  currently produced autos. They have a whole fleet of cars that sort of look like a ......?????  something.

Bob's Report on FABAC's 10th Anniversary Dinner

(Bob E apologizes for the lateness of the report)....

      The 10th anniversary FABAC dinner broke all records for an event with close to 50 people attending.  It's almost good that more didn't show up since we filled all seats in the prepared room.
      There was no real club business, instead we traded stories with Gary reminiscing about the last 10 years. David read some emails he'd received from absent members then introduced new members Steve and Jana who recently purchased a 74 MGB—and one with some local history too!  Johanna B. was given a certificate for sporting the best name tag.
       Kelvin gave away a custom FABAC anniversary hat which he'd had made.
       This was followed by six members of the original club standing up and accepting accolades from all the 'noobs'. David recounted his first meeting with Jim W. at that first meeting. This set off many more folks recounting stories from the club's history or their first meetings with their respective cars.
       This was our first visit to the Riverside Resort since the kitchen came under new management and we all enjoyed it immensely.  I hope we eat there again this year.

A Trip Around Le Mans 1956

An email from John B:
"A Trip Around Le Mans 1956" is a five-minute video of the late Mike Hawthorn commentating while driving a Jaguar D-type around the famous Le Mans circuit in France. The D-type race car was the precursor to the E-type roadster now owned by more and more of our wealthier FABAC members!! Click here to watch.

Lots of smiles says lots of fun at 10th Anniversary Dinner

(Click on picture for larger image)

From the FABAC Archives on our 8th Anniversary

(Just moved this up from its original posting two years ago)
Also, I have placed a * in front of names of those who attended the 10th Anniversary dinner.

At our last meeting, Jim McKeown mentioned to me that he still has the original list of people who attended our very first meeting. Quite a few are still active members of FABAC.

* Gary Arsenault
Bruce Benton
Ian Benton
Mark Colwell
* Bob Constable
Bob Devine
John DeWitt
John Harmon
Mario Hebert
Gary Hetherington
Tony House
* Jim McKeown
* David Nielsen
* Chris Painter
Ernst van Groenewood
Bryan Walker
Gary/Debby Wood
* Jim Woodford

Maybe we should invite all of them to our next meeting and see what they are doing(driving) now. What do you think? I propose that we also think about a 10th year attendance pin for a couple of years down the road. What do you think?

Bring your own NameTags to Anniversary Dinner

The Celebration Dinner is February the 16th. I would like to propose a Name-Tag Contest. There are already people who have indicated they are coming that I know many of you don't know. So, you have less than a month to plan, design, and create a magnificent NAME TAG so that you will be easily identified. There are no rules for size or anything—sounds like a FABAC thing, doesn't it. (I don't want the Bug Spat contestants to get carried away with size again.)
Good Luck!

Just a Reminder of the FABAC Anniversary Dinner

The Fredericton Area British Automobile Club is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2011. Our first meeting was on a cold February day in 2001 when a group of people sharing a common interest in British automobiles met at the lodge at O'Dell Park.

Our first event is a get-together for meeting, eating and greeting. We hope that you will join us, even if it is the first time you have attended any of our events. We hope to have a good turnout of all members, and especially those who attended the very first meeting.

When: February 16 from 5 until 8 (or so); eating at 6:00 (or so)
Where: Riverside Resort and Conference Centre near Mactaquac. We have a separate room booked. (Thanks to Jim Bleakney and Johanna Bertin for checking out places for us and making arrangements.)
What's for eats?: Their regular menu with items ranging from chowders ($5.49 or $9.99), soups, salads, bruschetta, nachos ($9.49) and wings ($5.49 or $8.99) to Entrées like ribs ($13.99 or $19.99), salmon ($17.99), rib-eye ($19.99), and fish & chips ($7.99 or $10.99). Pretty much something for everyone.

If you have any photos, memorabilia, etc from those early days, bring them along.

You do not have to place your food order ahead of time but you MUST let us know who is coming.

I say we take these guys on all future FABAC tours.

Differing opinions on the Triumph TR6

First I received this from the Russells: an article in the Globe & Mail

Then I received this from an email Curry got: Time once again for James May to remind us why the TR6 is the next best thing to sex, drugs and rock and roll.
"This is a bloke's car. When it goes to the bathroom, it leaves the seat up!"
The YouTube link here.
Curry comments, "Obviously James May has never seen Carolyn behind the wheel of HER TR6!"

This just in!

I have just been told that there a traditional British dessert is planned for our Wednesday Anniversary meal: sticky pudding with sauce.

Some fascinating stuff from Phil O.

I came across this video this morning and just had to send it on.  As usual with Top Gear, it is a hoot in places.  I’ve attached several photos of the Peel 50 car.  Neat!!!   It might be of interest of several people that it was built on the Isle of Man in the early 1960s. http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/tiny-apeel

Do you remember Stan Mott of Road & Track and the famous Cyclops from the late 1950s?  I think that this pic is of the much improved Cyclops II.  Perhaps the Peel folks used to read R & T?

What do you think are the most beautiful and ugliest examples of British sports cars?

Here's what Phil O thinks. Why not find a couple of photos that captures your opinion of most beautiful and ugliest examples and send them along to me. Must include a Jaguar.

By the way, I hope you were able to decide which of the two Phil considers the most beautiful.
