Lunchtime Tour To Stanley, Sunday Oct 3.

A new tour to take in the fall colours has been arranged by John B for Sunday, October 3.

It's a lunchtime tour for those who prefer to avoid driving home in the dark and the prospect of colliding with New Brunswick's wildlife. Rain or shine, we'll start at 11.00AM from Timmies at the Exhibition Ground and drive up Rte 8 to Stanley via Boisetown and Rte 625.

At Stanley, we'll stop for Sunday lunch at licensed Pam's Restaurant renowned for its good food, variety and reasonable prices. We'll return to Fredericton via Rte 620 and Rte 617 along great stretches of hilly highway with splendid views. Please register with an email to jmbowles@nb.sympatico.ca if you want to join the tour. There are only so many good days left!!

I think I'll just ease myself over to the right lane.

So, what did I do today? (Wednesday)

Well, let me tell you. I decided that since there's 45,000 miles on the Morgan without air filters on the Webers (which is the stock setup), maybe I should give the old girl a break and try some air filters. I bought a set designed for the shorter horns I had recently purchased but was a bit disappointed that they likely would not effectively prevent fine dust like the stuff on the road near the rock crusher near Island View. I was introduced to some really neat accordion style circular ones meant for truck air compressors I believe. So, experimentation was called for.
Since the Morgan Super Sport has twin Webers with two throats each, the result is that there is the ideal setup of essentially one carb per cylinder. So, for the experiment, I decided to leave two throats with no filters, one throat with the purchased screen type filter, and a temporary makeshift installation of the other type. This is what it looked like before the test run:
Makeshift filter, no filter, screen filter, no filter

There are many examples of this sort of thing on the Web, but I kinda liked this one.

What is it?

Thanks to Rob H. for this little test.

Report on Sept. 15th FABAC meeting by Gary

No less then 22 showed up for our regular monthly meeting with this one being held at the Schnitzel Parlour on Woodstock Road. Many thanks for Jim and Ellie for finding this new restaurant for us. The Germain cuisine was excellant with varoius Greman food includung snitzels, wonderful fresh salads and desserts that put the S in sweet and much more!

The minutes from our meeting:

  i. Bob Bentley from PEI would like to make contact with all MGA owners. His intention is to form a Maritime MGA group. If there are MGA members in our club who would be interested please let me know and I'll provide you Bob's email address.

ii. Bob is also interested in having another get together on the Island. This won,t be so much of a car show as a get together over a BBQ or something similar. He asked if we would be interested as a club in a future endeavor. I asked Bob to keep us apprised as its something I'm sure a number of us would be interetsed in attending.

iii. Stowe Vermont: A number of members are heading to the big British car gathering in Stowe Vermont. They are leaving Thursday. We await their reports and pictures with excitement.

iv. Owls Head (Antique car and aeroplane show) is the weekend of Oct 9-10. While we do not have a planned activity to participate I understand there is a group from BATANS that will be attending. So if anyone here would be interested, I'm sure they wouldn't mind another in their convoy. Please see their web site for details.

v. UNB Invitation for "Special"cars. Please see our web site for the details. The request is for Friday Oct 1/10.

vi. Upcoming Proposed Tours:

Oct 3 - Fall Color Tour -  David N. proposed an up river tour to allow us to see the fall splendid colors. We decided to post it and see what the interest would be. Details to follow.

Oct 17 Sunday at 1PM -Tour to Knightsville (near Sussex)- Jim B proposed the run with almost unamimous show of hands of interest. Jim will post details on site as we get closer to the event. This would also double as our regular monthly meeting.

Open date, fall or early spring: Dwight proposed a tour and an overnight at the famous Algonguin. He has done a fair amount of work on this and has gotten us some very good rates. We can get these good rates provided we can gurantee 10+ people. We need a show of interest and whether or not we do this this fall or early spring.

Christmas in the Village(Gagetown): David N proposed a return to Gagetown for their "Christmas in the Village". We've done this before and had a merry time and a wonderful visit of the town. Is there interest to do it again this year?

Next meeting: We will delay our monthly meeting to the Knightsville Tour on  Oct 17. Please wait for the posted details.

    Happy Autumn everyone!

An update on the UNB invitation for automobiles in parade

Stephen was curious as to whether or not non-British autos would be acceptable for the event. Here's a bit of the replay from Barb:

I would be thrilled to have BMW, Porsche and/or Mazda roadsters in our parade.  To date I have confirmed entry by the owners of three MGBs and a Jaguar. If you have a red or a black vehicle you will be driving a former UNB president – I see the 6 presidents travelling in alternating red and black autos as the vanguard of the parade.
So FABACians, let Barb know if you are interested.
